What Beavers do:-

Beavers are for boys/girls aged 6-8 yrs.  We play games, usually on a theme for each week, using our excellent grounds as much as possible.  We also do craft, artwork, learn about our world past and current.  We go on walks, outings and have visitors.  We try different food and drink and make up our own puppet shows for parents.  We also earn LOTS of badges!  This all amounts to lots of fun.

What do Cubs do?                 Answer: Have fun!

Whilst enjoying themselves Cubs learn, without realising, many skills: from cooking, to carpentry to knotting, to caring for wildlife, plants etc. - the list is endless. There are over thirty badges to be earned, taking in personal fitness and health through sports of all kinds, mental stimulation with the Book Reader and Collectors badges, spiritual knowledge with the My Faith and World Faiths badges.

One of our most popular activities is outdoor cooking – first you have to know how to build you stove ie. a camp fire.  It’s no good just setting fire to a load of sticks and hoping for the best!
Modern technology is not forgotten with the Communicator, Science and Information Technology badges.

We try to do things that are not usually done at school, or if they are we try the practical approach in smaller group thus enabling a better understanding – in theory that is, it does not always work out but we have fun trying.
Our members range from 8 to 10 ½ years of age and we are “all inclusive” that is - no barriers on gender, race, religion, class or ability (the Scout movement has specialist advisors for most special needs).

Scout Troop & Explorer Scout Unit

Scouting makes a positive contribution to society by helping young people to develop as active members of the communitee:    who are self reliant,
                                                   who are caring,
                                                   who are responsible,
                                                   who show commitment.
Scouting works well when young people enjoy learning by working in partnership with adults. They do this by:
Taking part in a variety of activities and new experiences
Exploring the outdoors
Participating in teams
Taking responsibility
Scouting in the UK is organised through The Scout Association and has a clear purpose:
To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The Group

The Scout Association offers everyday adventure and activity to almost 400,000 young people across the UK. The movement is the largest co-educational youth organisation in the world, with over 28 million members in 216 countries and territories.
The Chipstead Scout Group was originally formed in 1912, three years after Scouting was started by Robert Baden-Powell. The Scout troop ran until the early part of the World War 11. The first Scout Master was Mr. Rudolph.

The Group was reformed in 1952 with Charles Hancock as Scout Leader. The group has been active since then and now comprises four sections. Our H.Q. is the Scout Hut in Castle Road which we have used since 1953. In 2004 we purchased the hut and surrounding land. So we now own marvellous ‘scouting’ country, very suitable for camping and complete with a camp fire circle.

All sections are open for new members.

Like all youth organisations we are always short of adult help. If you would like to help today’s young people please contact Jim Knight or Tony Hook.
